Consider how the political system and cultural beliefs of the United States impacted the world of African- Americans during the 1930's - 1950's. Think about the methods of resistance against racism that Angelou utilized. How did the opportunities for resistance for rural southern blacks differ from those available to the black people in San Francisco? How did racism, sexism, violence, and loneliness affect Maya Angelou and how did she deal with these issues?
