ALL HALLOWS OWN ROBERT SANDOVAL VISITS THE WHITE HOUSE

EXCERPT FROM NEW YORK TIMES SCHOOL BOOK:

It’s not everyday that school children from New York City get to visit the White House — plus meet Michelle Obama. But it happened on Wednesday when students from two groups accepted the 2011 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award for their programs, which bring together students from across the city and enhance learning.

Robert B. Sandoval, who will accept the award on behalf of the Saturday Academies, is a senior at the private All Hallows Institute in the Bronx. He has already reaped the rewards of going to school on the weekend: he received 3 out of 5 points on the AP U.S. history test and 4 out of 5 points on the AP world history test, which could qualify him to receive college credit. He has applied to Columbia University and Stony Brook University on Long Island, he said.

“My family went through a lot when I was young,” said Robert, whose parents emigrated from the Philippines. “I’m taking every opportunity I can to work hard and do good. I want to make them proud.”

All Hallows Students sharpen leadership skills in Ireland

This summer, students from All Hallows High School visited the National University of Ireland at Maynooth in County Kildare where they attended the week long Albert Schweitzer International leadership for life conference.

The Albert Schweitzer Leadership for Life program actively promotes educational, economic, commercial and financial relations between the US and Ireland.  It provides student leaders with the knowledge they need to create the world of the future - a more prosperous, peaceful world with strong courageous leadership free of bigotry, ambivalence and cultural ignorance.
