All Hallows High school is a private Catholic
high school for young men, inspired by the vision of Blessed Brother
Edmund Ignatius Rice, founder of the Congregation of Christian Brothers.
The Congregation of Christian Brothers in 1909 Founded All Hallows.
When the school was first opened it was located at 13-15 West 124th
Street. With the passing of time, however, the enrollment became
such that there was a need to find a new location. In 1929 the property
of the present location was purchased and in 1930 the building was
completed. Having finished its first 90 years of service it proudly
boasts an alumni of over 10,000 men.
OUR SEAL
The Latin phrase PRO FIDE ET PARTIA means FOR FAITH AND COUNTRY.
The American eagle at the center of the seal represents the All
Hallows Community's commitment to the United States of America.
The wreath of palm surrounding the seal refers to victory and achievement
in both athletics and scholastics. The circle surrounding the eagle
is a reminder of our continuing faith and the four corners of the
seal are represented by Gaelic symbols for the continuation of life.
ACCREDITATION
All Hallows High School is accredited by The Board of Regents of
The University of the State of New York and the Middle States Association
of Colleges and Schools. We are active members of the National Catholic
Education Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum
Development and the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
ACCEPTANCE TO ALL HALLOWS
All eighth grade students seeking acceptance to All Hallows must
take the coop examination administered by the Archdiocese of New
York. Forms for this exam can be obtained from his Catholic grammar
school or from the Archdiocese of New York Education Office. Seventh
and eight grade transcripts are to be mailed, from the school he
is attending, to All Hallows.
Once both the results of the coop exam and the transcript are received
each student is evaluated for his ability to complete the requirements
to graduate from All Hallows.
Those students seeking admission from another high school must submit
a letter to the Principal. The Principal will then indicate what
is needed to complete the process.
ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
All Hallows High School admits students of any race, color, national
and ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs and activities
generally accorded or made available at the school. All Hallows
does not discriminate on the basis of race color, national and ethnic
origin, in the administrations of its own educational policies,
admission policies, scholarship, athletic and other administered
programs.
The registration of a student at All Hallows is considered a recognition
and an acceptance on his part and the part of his parents or guardians
of compliance with all the rules and regulations of All Hallows
High School.
In order for a student to go on the next year he must pass all of
his courses for the current year. Any mark below a sixty five percent
is considered a failure. If a student receives a failing final mark
in a course he must make up this course in a summer school approved
by the Principal of All Hallows. Any student with three of more
failures on their final average is not re-admitted to All Hallows
unless it is decided that he may repeat the year. A student may
be required to leave All Hallows in January if extraordinary deficiencies
exist. Students involved in extracurricular activities are required
to maintain passing grades in all subjects.
STATEMENT OF PHILOSOPHY
"Catholic education is an expression of the mission entrusted by
Jesus to the church He founded. Through education the Church seeks
to prepare its members to proclaim the Good News and translate this
proclamation into action. Since the Christian vocation is a call
to transform oneself and society with God's help, the educational
efforts of the Church must encompass the twin purposes of personal
sanctification and social reform in light of Christian values."
To Teach As Jesus Did" U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops
All Hallows teaches the young men that education liberates them
and develops their minds and imagination. Through the interaction
of instructors and students, All Hallows stresses that to be educated
is to be able to immerse oneself in a lifelong learning experience
to understand the world and to be able to distinguish, discern and
discriminate within a system of God-centered values.
The course of study reflects the students' diversity of backgrounds
and abilities. All Hallows strives to address this diversity through
an open caring teaching community that creates an atmosphere of
self-discipline, courtesy and concern for others. The students are
urged to achieve to the best of their abilities; thus, preparing
them for the challenges and opportunities of adult life.
All Hallows' goal are to guide the students into becoming educated
men, as well as Christian gentlemen who will make our world a better
place to live.
